The base is clear crystal glass set in a gold-finished frame. That is the whole trick: the glass almost disappears, what remains is a drawn outline that nearly floats against a pale wall and only truly appears against a dark one.

The right-angled white shade sets a clean edge against the rounded base. With two holders rather than one, the light inside spreads more evenly, so the shade glows as a surface rather than a point.

At 67.5 cm the Arlington is a large table lamp: right on a sideboard, a console, or as a pair either side of a bed. For a bedside table it is on the large side, worth measuring before you buy.
